The Directors of Simply for Strings, Anna Andriolo and Toby Cumpstay have had a collective 15 years experience in selling stringed instruments, their accessories and sheet music. They both studied music throughout their youth (violin, viola and cello) and proceeded onto a tertiary level, so the hobby grew into a passionate career. Both Anna and Toby have taught and played in orchestras in and around Brisbane.Toby and Anna get great enjoyment from watching their customers grow from beginner students into professional musicians, teachers and enthused hobbyists. YEARS IN THE MAKING...
Marked by its original stained glass windows, blue trimmed arched doorways and polished wooden floors – Simply for Strings invites you into its world of music - an original church built by the first Presbyterian community in ‘Ithaca’ (now Paddington, Red Hill area). The ‘old church’ was completed in December of 1885 and it wasn’t until 1981 that the building was eventually sold. In 1929 the church’s growing congregation moved to a new sandstone church a hundred metres up the road, while the original wooden building was used for the ministry of the Sunday school. Since being sold in 1981 the ‘Old Church’ has had many tenants including a Greek restaurant, chair manufacturer and Brisbane’s own ‘Sit-Down Comedy Club’s’ booking agency. In the early 1990’s the then owner of the building had an inspired idea – to make the back wall into one large glass picture frame capturing the magic view of Brisbane city and beyond – a must see for any shopper or passer-by.
